Viedma Glacier

After several days of waking up leisurely, it was tough to jump out of bed at 0530 on Thursday, December 23 for the 3+ hour bus ride from El Calafate to El Chalten.  I didn’t really have a concept of how awesome the day was going to be at that time in the morning.

Patagonia is an amazing area.  Several in our group are reasonably experienced hikers, but this area has impressed everyone.  The drive was magnificently scenic.  The plan was for most of the group to do a mini-trek on the Viedma Glacier while Mary went on a first rate boat cruise to see the glacier and other areas.  If you think trekking on a glacier is cool, it’s nothing compared to being underneath one!

Words can’t do the experience justice and the pictures barely can.  I’ll be brief today with more pictures.
